Scotland is a magical space with lush countryside, colorful cliffs, and countless spirits that go bump in the night. The ghost stories around this area are deeply woven into Scottish folklore, and many of the most haunted spots are available to be yours for the night. So, if you are searching for a destination for your unique wedding, Scotland is going to be the perfect place to travel! As an offbeat wedding photographer, I have been lucky enough to work with couples looking for the dream spot for their wedding. Here are the haunted castles in Scotland that I really think you should consider for your wedding venue!

Fyvie Castle features a pale pink haunted Scotland castle that dates back to 1211. While there are a few spooky stories about this spot, the most common is the legend of the curse placed on it by Thomas the Rhymer. According to the legend, the castle can never be inherited by the firstborn sons until three mysterious weeping stones are brought together. You are available to hold intimate weddings for up to 120 guests inside the castle. Outside, you can have a marquee wedding for over 1,0000 guests.

If you want your haunted wedding to be a day of laughter, Drum Castle might be your Scotland spot. The 700-year-old castle is said to be haunted by Anna Forbes Irvine and her son, Alexander. Stay quiet, and you might just hear Alexander’s giggles echoing through the hallways. Inside the castle, you can seat up to 70 guests. Outside, you can have a drinks reception for over 500 guests in the breathtaking Garden of Historic Roses.

Culzean Castle & Country Park is a castle that sits atop a verdant hill. Some of the ghosts that haunt this castle include a woman who wears a ballgown as she ascends the grand staircase, as well as a piper who plays anytime a storm overtakes the island. The inside of the castle can accommodate up to 50 guests, and the grounds can hold up to 250 guests.

Eilean Donan is a favorite haunted castle of Scotland photographers because of its picturesque exterior including the iconic footbridge. It’s also one of the most haunted on the continent. While you are here, you might run into a Spanish soldier who passed away during the first Jacobite Rebellion or Lady Mary who wanders around the castle bedrooms. This venue is exceptionally accommodating and will make sure you have all you need for your wedding. You will be able to host up to 70 guests.

Set amidst the cliffs near the ocean, the ruins of Dunnottar Castle give you a wedding venue unlike any other. The legacy here is quite dark. It’s said that during the night, you can hear the cries of the people who were jailed here when they refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of the king. Today, the castle allows you to host up to 25 guests and will give you a planning team so every detail is in its place.
With these haunted castles in Scotland, you are going to have the perfect backdrop for your wedding. And if you still need your photographer, I would love to have a conversation! I love documenting weddings that let you show off your unique personalities. Whether your style is dark and romantic or offbeat and colorful, I really think we’re going to be a great match.
